The confinement of macOS to unique Mac computers has definitely not discouraged new customers.
Microsoft may offer its OS, Windows 10 and 11, on a greater variety than Apple, but that does not prevent the undisputed king from losing followers. According to a report released by StockApps, Microsoft’s hegemony would be increasingly undermined, and the trend has only been confirmed over the years. Obviously, many users want to try out the Apple ecosystem and its Macs, equipped with macOS.
While in 2013, Windows equipped 90.96% of computers in circulation, today they are only 73.72%, a drop of 17%. Obviously, the main winner of this loss of momentum is Apple.
In 10 years, Apple has gone from 7.95% of computers running macOS to 15.33% today. The M1 chips, a cleaner and clearer interface, stronger privacy protection and a more limited product range seem to have worked in favor of Apple.
