Windows has lost 17% of its market share, going from 90.96% in 2013 to 73.72% today Faced with increased competition from other operating systems such as Ubuntu or Linux Lite

These days, you don’t have to stick with Microsoft’s Windows operating system if you don’t want to. There are some great Linux distros you can use instead, like Ubuntu or Linux Lite, or macOS if you choose to switch to Apple hardware. You can even use iPads or Android tablets as laptop alternatives if you prefer.

In 2013, Microsoft Windows accounted for more than 90% of the total desktop operating system market, but this figure has dropped significantly over the past decade in the face of increased competition.

According to a data presentation from StockApps.com, Windows has lost 17% of its market share, from 90.96% in 2013 to 73.72% today.

Apple’s desktop OS (currently macOS) has been a big winner, growing from 7.95 percent in January 2013 to 15.33 percent in December 2021. That equates to a 93 percent gain, or an average of regarding 1% per year.

Linux is also gaining popularity in the operating system market.

Edith Reads, experte financire de StockApps, dclare : “Windows’ stranglehold on the operating system market is diminishing due to increased competition. Today, Microsoft faces competition from developers of alternative operating systems. The latter have developed software that appeals to some computer enthusiasts because it is open source, faster, safer and easier to use.

Windows 11 also doesn’t provide the boost that Microsoft so badly needs at the moment. According to the latest figures from AdDuplex, the growth of the new operating system came to a complete halt in March.
