Windows 11’s Start Menu may add “Thumbnails” and “Categories” display methods for applications

According to XDA-Developers, reports suggest that the “All Apps” list in the Windows 11 Start Menu might revert to the “Thumbnail” and “Category” display modes. Currently, “All Apps” only shows a long alphabetically sorted list. This can be frustrating when trying to find an app among a large number of installed programs.

It is said that a future update may include a drop-down menu in “All Apps,” allowing users to choose between a grid layout with app icons or a categorized app display, similar to iOS. This feature was found in the Beta version of Windows 11 by Phantomofearth. However, Microsoft did not mention it in the update notes and requires a special method to enable it. This suggests that it is likely still in early development and may not be officially released soon.

At least, Microsoft is still considering improving the Windows 11 interface. Compared with previous versions, Windows 11 has removed many features and settings, resulting in a less intuitive Start Menu and taskbar. Users looking for the familiar Windows 10 experience might need to rely on third-party software. Although this is just a small step, hopefully Microsoft will consider users’ actual needs and stop focusing solely on adding ads to the Start menu.
