Windows 11 will take over the management of PC RGB lighting. It is possible that this “native” functionality will be offered for testing soon.

The information is official while recent sightings confirm that development is ongoing. The option, concerning the RGB of keyboards, mice or other controllers, was spotted in a Preview of Windows 11 offered through the Windows Insider program. For the moment it is not activated.

It is located in: Paramètres > Personnalisation > Éclairage.

Windows 11 and RGB management, a dedicated page

A screenshot shows the option ” Use dynamic lighting on my devices indicating the possibility of enjoying dynamic lighting on all devices. Then we have below the mention ” Lighting devices which will probably list all compatible and manageable devices.

It will be interesting to follow this dossier because RGB has invaded the PC world in a few years. Many device manufacturers have their own applications. Should we prepare for their disappearance? The competition will be fierce and the arguments will have to be strong to prevail. With native settings Windows 11 will probably simplify things via a less rich but more streamlined and centralized approach.

For the moment it is difficult to be in the affirmative but Microsoft hopes to propose a solution for “aadd energy and emotion to your PC experience “. It is reported the addition of advanced management of profiles (creations, activation and switching between profiles according to preferences). There is a good chance that many peripherals will be compatible, but developers and hardware partners would be slow to test the integration and deployment of compatible drivers.

Microsoft also announced “Copilot” and lots of little things here and there for Windows 11. For example, AI will be coming to the Store so

  • automatically organize the list of the best applications,
  • highlight the best results in the search bar,
  • optimize application discovery,
  • and generate review summaries.

Another novelty will concern the “Backup and restore” function. It will focus on keeping applications when switching from one device to another. It is explained that it will automatically restore apps from a backup of another device.
