Microsoft is working on an alternative passwordless authentication solution for its Windows 11 operating system.
Starting with Preview Build 23486, members of the Windows Insiders Program can test a Windows 11 authentication without password.
How ? By relying on the access keys (Passkeys), whether to authenticate directly under the operating system or under websites or applications supporting this type of solution.
Access keys represent a future where bad actors will have a much harder time stealing and using your credentials when logging into a website or app. Security keys are phishing-resistant, recoverable, and faster for users.
When a secure access key is created, one can use Windows Hello to authenticate by facial recognition (Infrared webcam), fingerprint reader or code PIN.
The Redmond firm tells us:
Additionally, users can use their phone to complete the app login process.

We give users fundamental control over how they can manage saved passwords on their Windows device.
They can now view and delete saved access keys for their favorite apps/websites from Windows Settings.
