One of the latest Windows 11 updates is causing a taskbar crash. Microsoft confirms this failure and a fix is being deployed.
The problematic update is KB5014668. Once downloaded and installed, it causes a bug for some users. He touches the start menu which no longer works. The firm specifies
After installing KB5014668 or later updates, we have received reports that a small number of devices may not be able to open the Start menu. On affected devices, clicking or selecting the Start button, or using the Windows key on the keyboard may have no effect.
Microsoft already has a fix in hand. It is deployed through the known issues restoration service. The victims of this failure should thus find a normal operation of the Start menu. No modification or action is required. Note that a restart of the PC may be required for the changes to take effect.
This issue is resolved using Known Issues Rollback (KIR). Please note that it may take up to 24 hours for the issue to be fixed for the resolution to automatically propagate to consumer devices and unmanaged business devices. Restarting your Windows device can help get the fix applied to your device faster. For company-managed devices that have installed an affected update and experienced this issue, you can resolve it by installing and configuring a special Group Policy. The special group policy is located in Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> KB5014668 220721_04201 Rolling back known issue -> Windows 11 (original version).
The next set of cumulative updates for Windows 11 will go live as part of Patch Tuesday August 2022. According to the schedule this will happen on August 9th.
