Windows 11, Spotify installs automatically and without authorization

In recent days there have been reports of Spotify being automatically installed on Windows 10 and Windows 11 PCs. The operation is done without permission and without warning.

For the moment the file is not very clear. We don’t know if this is an intentional decision on Microsoft’s part or a bug. One thing seems certain the app pops up on startup for many users. Reports have arrived on different platforms like Twitter et Reddit. In some cases the criticism rains down. Microsoft is asked to explain how the application was automatically installed on their systems.

For example a utility explains

My computer updated last night and Spotify was on it this morning. The easiest way to make sure I don’t trust your app, I uninstalled it and left a 1 star review.

while others specify

I noticed it yesterday. I told a friend regarding it and he had it too. Uninstall it immediately. The era of updating Windows with bloatware has returned.

Has Windows installed Spotify on anyone else’s in the past few days? Two machines are victims in my home. Too much control is taken by Microsoft…

Windows 11 and inflagware, obesware or other bloatware

For the moment we do not know how the application ended up automatically installed on these machines. It’s possible that Microsoft just accidentally pushed the tool to these PCs through the Microsoft Store. Another hypothesis is that it is a new feature offered through a third-party application downloaded from the Store.

The company uses this mechanism to automatically install games on Windows 10 and 11 Pro. We’ve known for a long time that the Microsoft Store can install apps without permission. It is not necessary to be in front of your machine to see the automatic installation of certain software. One of the best examples is Candy Crush.

This type of approach is debatable because Windows is an operating system. It is a personal and private interface between the user and his machine. Normally it should be neutral and a confidential area and not be accompanied by inflagware, obeseware or other puffyware.
