Windows 11 Shrinks Shares Among Steam Users, Says Valve

Valve released its monthly report on the Hardware and Software Survey this weekend, which raises statistics on the use of the Steam platform. According to data from the last month of March 2023, Windows 11 has reduced its participation among players.

The latest edition of Microsoft’s operating system has shrunk from 30% to 22.41%. In turn, Windows 10 made the opposite move and increased its share to 73.59% – an increase of 10.49%.

When combined, Windows versions 11 and 10 account for a combined 96.36% of Steam users. There is still a small amount of gamers who have Windows 7 and 8.1, but together they are around 1.31%. Valve is expected to drop support for these two older editions soon.

The report is in line with Microsoft’s own PC participation numbers. According to the survey by the Redmond giant, the most recent version of its operating system jumped from 19.13% to 20.95%.

Hardware

On the hardware side, Intel processors are still the absolute preference of users, with a presence of 76.18% (+9.01%). AMD has already reduced its share and maintains 23.80% (-9%).

Among graphics cards, the most used is the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060, with a 10.44% share (+6.9%). The podium is completed by two others that showed an increase: the RTX 2060, with 7.89% (+3.67%); and the GTX 1060, which registered 7.69% (+2.59%).
