A Microsoft employee has reportedly inadvertently leaked that the Windows 11 Notepad app will have tab functionality.
This person, a senior product manager at the company, posted a screenshot of the tabbed notepad. He seems to have tweeted enthusiastically with a megaphone pictogram, ‘A tab has been added to Windows 11 Notepad!’
The original tweet was deleted minutes later, but Windows Central and several other Windows enthusiasts apparently saved the image before it was taken down. The image of the notepad clearly states, “Confidential Do not discuss features or take screenshots.”
This warning suggests that the tabs feature is still in early internal testing. It will likely be available for the Windows Insider Program sometime in early 2023.
In September’s “Windows 11 2022 Update” (version 22H2),Added tabs to File ExplorerIt’s all regarding it. The tab function, which allows you to open different folders in one window at the same time and switch between them for each task, has been very well received.
If notepad has a tab function, it will be possible to open two or more memos and copy and paste each other, so it seems that there will be no need to obtain a text editor from another company.
A few years ago MS was testing “Sets” which added tabs to all Windows 10 apps. It also included Notepad and File Explorer, but the project was eventually discontinued.
If File Explorer is followed by Notepad with tabs, then maybe other MS apps will come with tabs as well.
