In case you don’t know, Wallpaper Engine is a very popular application among Windows users that allows you to create and add animated wallpapers in a complete graphical environment. The level of customization is incredible, but unfortunately it is being affected by Windows 11’s Moment 4 update.
The issue was recognized by the Wallpaper Engine developer in July, who spoke to several users who were reporting bugs when testing the Moment 4 update on Windows 11 Insider.
At the time, the developer said:
After a conversation with Microsoft, they have removed the HDR wallpaper feature for now and will review the underlying system so that compatibility with wallpaper apps like Wallpaper Engine is maintained in the future.
Unfortunately, the only recommendation given at that time was that users who wanted to use Wallpaper Engine should stop using Windows 11 Insider, as Microsoft was making major changes to its desktop environment, which made it impossible for the application team to fix the problem. .
We are currently unable to fix issues for you because we have spoken extensively with Microsoft and they are making extreme changes to the desktop experience right now and partially rolling back some recent changes. It’s simply not realistically possible to provide support for this under the current circumstances, although we are working with Microsoft on a long-term solution before these updates go live for stable versions of Windows. We will review your changes in due course. If you want a stable Windows experience, opt out of the Windows Insider program. It sounds harsh, but that’s the only honest suggestion we can make.
However, the stable version of Windows 11 continues to have problems with the Wallpaper Engine. Several users of the application report problems when using it in build KB5030310.
Fortunately, some users also say that it is possible to avoid the problem by disabling Windows 11 Copilot and reinstalling Wallpaper Engine.
Additionally, the app team recommends exiting Windows Insider Preview and disabling HDR support if users continue to experience issues using Wallpaper Engine on the latest version of Windows 11.
Either way, it’s unfortunate that an issue like this is still present in an update as big as Moment 4. We hope Microsoft and Wallpaper Engine release a new update to fix it as soon as possible.
