Windows 11: Microsoft tests the automatic initialization of Copilot and a new set of settings

2023-10-29 13:30:00

A Microsoft released build 23575 this week for all members who are part of the program Windows 11 Insider in the Dev channel. However, hidden features were only discovered this weekend and indicate more news for the software.

As reported by the Neowin website, Microsoft is internally testing the ability to run the Copilot generative AI assistant automatically when Windows starts, which might be interesting for users with larger screens.

You can open Copilot on startup in a new section of the Settings app (also hidden). Microsoft hasn’t announced the feature, so enabling it requires running a command using a third-party app called ViVeTool.

Currently, the new Settings section only has one option, but Microsoft is expected to add more content to this tab in future updates as it makes Copilot more capable and better integrated into the operating system.

It is important to highlight that unannounced (hidden) features are generally still very raw, unstable or almost unusable. Therefore, it is very important to back up important data before enabling it with the ViVeTool app.

If you are part of the Dev channel of the Windows 11 Insider program, simply follow the steps below to enable automatic launch of Copilot in build 23575:

Download ViveTool do GitHub and unzip the files into a convenient, easy-to-find folder. Press Win + X and select Terminal (Admin). Switch Windows Terminal to Command Prompt profile with shortcut Ctrl + Shift + 2 or by clicking the down arrow button at the top of the window. Navigate to the folder containing the ViveTool files with the command CD. For example, if you placed ViveTool in C:Vive, type CD C:Vive. type it vivetool /enable /id:45690501 and pressure Enter. Restart your computer. Open the Settings app and go to Personalization > Copilot on Windows. Activate the option Open Copilot when Windows starts.

To revert the changes, replace /enable by /disable na etapa 5.
