Windows 11, Microsoft makes it easier to adopt the latest version

Microsoft introduces a new option to upgrade its PCs to the latest version of Windows 11. This novelty is part of the content offered by the cumulative update KB5015882.

KB5015882 has recently become available. This is an optional Windows 11 update. Clearly its download and installation are not automatic. User intervention is required. Its content focuses on fixing bugs while bringing improvements and some new features. For example, the OOBE process during the installation of Windows 11 is enriched with an option facilitating the upgrade to the latest version of the operating system.

In other words, when you install Windows 11 on a new device, if the version you are rolling out is not the latest, OOBE can check for updates and proceed to install the latest version. This means that you can enjoy the latest version of Windows 11 in an easier way, without the need to log into the desktop, configure the account and then search through the Windows Update service.

Microsoft explains

The update provides the ability for eligible devices to update to the newer version of Windows 11 during OOBE. If you choose this option, the update process will begin shortly after the update is installed on the device.

In parallel to this novelty KB5015882 introduces other improvements. Some concern Autopilot while the giant adds

This update removes the one-time use restriction for self-deploying mode (SDM) and pre-provisioning (PP). This update also re-enables any User Principal Name (UPN) display in User Mode Deployments (UDM) for trusted manufacturers.

These improvements will be available to all devices running Windows 11 as part of the upcoming Patch Tuesday. The meeting will take place in August. This major monthly maintenance will give rise to several Windows cumulative updates. The deployment will be automatic this time.
