Windows 11: Microsoft changes the list of supported processors

2023-10-28 10:07:28

Microsoft has just updated the list of officially supported processors for its Windows 11 operating system. Interestingly, the giant is reintroducing Intel processors, which it had removed earlier this year.

Windows 11 comes with more stringent system requirements than Windows 10. These changes are so significant as to make millions of Windows 10 PCs ineligible for an upgrade. At the same time, there is an ultimatum since support for Windows 10 will soon end. Clearly in two years, dozens, if not hundreds of millions of machines will find themselves abandoned. They will have to work with a vulnerable OS and without a security patch.

Microsoft explained that these changes to system requirements were related to security and reliability. If you are on Windows 10 you can check if your hardware configuration meets these needs by running Microsoft’s PC Health Check application. Third-party tools can also be used like WhynotWin11.

Microsoft publishes for its part processor lists supported on its website. These publicly available lists are for Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm chips. They are useful because they are important documents for organizations, manufacturers, and individuals who want to know if a specific processor is compatible.

Windows 11 refuses to install if a processor not on these lists is present. There are ways to get around these restrictions but they inevitably come with more or less significant problems. Tools like Rufus allow you to create OS installation keys by bypassing these restrictions.

Windows 11, lists of supported processors

Microsoft’s latest intervention at the level of its lites was the deletion last August of 44 references. It created a surprise because PCs running Windows 11 found themselves incompatible without explanation. Fortunately this modification did not create general chaos.

Desk mud has just observed a step backwards on the part of Microsoft. The firm has reintroduced these processors. The firm gives no explanation and the approach was carried out discreetly. It is possible that this deletion was originally an error.

Affected devices will now not experience any issues during the next upgrade. It is officially named Windows 11 2023 Update.
