Microsoft will relieve Windows 11 of a tool and service. It is known as MSDT. The operation will take some time. Gradually users will be oriented towards Solving problems.
Windows 11 evolves and transforms. In a recent intervention Microsoft announced an important change. It will be introduced with the next version of Windows 11 expected for the second half. It will consist of redirecting users to the “Get Help” platform provided with Windows when certain troubleshooting utilities associated with MSDT (Microsoft Support Diagnostic Tool) will be launched.
The timeline is for this redirect to affect all MSDT-related troubleshooters in 2024. These will then no longer be available from the operating system.
This will include
- Audio
- Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS)
- Bluetooth
- Network and Internet
- Printer
- Program Compatibility
- Video Playback
- Windows Media Player
- Windows Update
If everything goes according to plan, the transition will be completed in 2025, when the MSDT platform will be completely abandoned. The firm explain
Microsoft is retiring troubleshooters such as the Keyboard and Speech Troubleshooter, and the Microsoft Support Diagnostic Tool (MSDT) that runs them. These are built-in tools that, when launched, automatically diagnose and fix common problems for various Windows features. MSDT troubleshooters will be deprecated in the next version of Windows 11 whose release date is yet to be determined.
Microsoft indicates that this change will only affect PCs running the version of Windows 11 introducing this change or higher.
The deprecation of the MSDT troubleshooter, including redirection and removal of troubleshooters, will take effect on devices running the next version of Windows 11. If you are running Windows 11 version 22H2 and earlier, Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 7 or any other earlier version of the operating system, your device will not be affected by these changes. These operating systems will continue to run older troubleshooters.
