Windows 11 start menu

After a break for the end-of-year holidays, the Windows Insider program will resume its activity. In a few days, new builds of Windows 11 will be released, hopefully with some surprises and new features.

In the meantime, the firm promises that changes will be made to one of the essential elements of the operating system interface, the start menu. This promise is signed by the new head of the Windows and Web Experiences team, Mikhail Parakhin. It is the result of a request from Mark Szili posted on X (formerly Twitter)

Please just fix the start menu so I can scroll through all the apps without an extra click on “all apps.”

Mikhail Parakhin responded on his compte

It’s so true ! It annoys me to no end too. Let’s push team – we need to make the Start Menu great once more.

Windows 11, the start menu must become great once more

This response quickly gained attention for two reasons. The first is that if the extra click to access all the applications also annoys the team leader, it is very likely that a solution will be proposed.

The other reason is that Microsoft recognizes that the Start menu is not yet “great” and that improvements are needed to make it that way. This assumes that significant work will be done to improve its overall experience. The next builds published as part of the Windows Insider program should provide the beginnings of an answer.

Several reports announce that the first meeting around Windows 11 is planned for the first quarter of 2024 with the publication of the Moment 5 update.
