Microsoft incorporated a technology that will allow users of Windows 11 log in without having to type your passwords in each application linked with its new support tool for access keys or “passkeys”. It is an authentication method that points towards a future in which passwords are no longer used.
The tech company incorporated this feature into Windows Hello, Microsoft’s operating system sign-in mechanism that supports a PIN, fingerprint reading, and facial recognition. At the moment it is only available to members of its Windows Insider developer program.
The novelty allows users to create a password in Windows Hello, which in turn will work as a credential so they can enter other applications without having to remember each password. The login will be linked to the “passkey”.
How the “passwordless” login works
This access key must first be enabled in the digital service, as long as it is supported, and then establish said key from the account settings in Windows so that it is requested the next time you log in.
access keys they allow users to verify their identity by fingerprint, facial recognition or by entering a PIN. This is possible by linking a private key with each personal account, and subsequent synchronization between devices for use on web pages and applications that support this type of system.
Once this is done, the created passkey is saved locally on the device, serving as a key for the next time a login is required.
