We reported earlier that Microsoft announced that it would remove WordPad from Windows 11 (related reports). Recently, some media discovered that the latest Windows 11 Build 26020 Canary internal test version can no longer find WordPad.

According to the Chinese media “Quick Technology”, if the user starts the installation from the Windows 11 Build 26020 Canary version, WordPad will disappear completely; on the contrary, if the user upgrades from an older version of Windows 11, it can still continue. Use WordPad.

At the beginning of the month, Microsoft announced on the Windows Insider blog that Windows 11 version 26020 would remove People, Steps Recorder and WordPad. According to Chinese media Kuai Technology, following Windows removes WordPad this time, it will no longer provide any official reinstallation channels. To put it simply, Windows has completely abandoned WordPad. WordPad was born at the same time as Windows 95 and has a history of nearly 30 years. But now that Microsoft has begun to promote its AI Microsoft Copilot and recommends users to use it with Office, perhaps this is one of the reasons why Microsoft decided to abandon WordPad.
