Windows 11 build 25126 is available (23H2), what’s new?

For the past few hours, a new Preview of Windows 11 has been available through the Windows Insider program, build 25126. It targets PCs registered on the DEV channel.

This is an important change because the DEV and BETA channels are once more separated following having hosted the same Preview several times.

Windows 11 build 25126 is available for download only through the DEV channel. This is a new branch of development that will eventually give birth to Windows 11’s second feature update. It’s expected to arrive in 2023.

Windows 11 build 15126, what’s new

For the moment it is a very first step with little novelty. Most of the work concerns the correction of problems. However, we find a new account settings page with information on existing Microsoft services.

On the question of bugs, we have important fixes, especially around the crashes observed when installing the preview versions of Windows 11. Microsoft explains

We fixed an issue causing the DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error in pci.sys during a bug check. The situation was in turn causing a rollback trying to install the latest builds from the dev channel. We worked to mitigate the issue that caused the Program Compatibility Assistant service to use an unexpected amount of CPU resource for some Insiders following upgrading to the latest Insider Preview builds in the Dev Channel.

Microsoft also released fixes for Task Manager. One of them addresses an issue causing it to crash if Explorer.exe stops responding.

The release note adds

We solved

  • an issue where context menus were not following the same mode (light or dark) as Task Manager itself
  • a typo in the “Minimize Usage” tooltip.
  • If you hid the graphs on the side of the Performance page, the color of the circles used instead should now match the graph in the summary view.
  • We fixed an issue where the unresponsive status for some apps was not reflected on the Processes page.
