Microsoft is rolling out a new Preview version of Windows 11, build 22572. It’s available to PCs enrolled in the Windows Insider program’s DEV channel.
It introduces Family and Clipchamp, many improvements and several fixes. A new Preview of Microsoft Defender (in English and in the United States only) is also part of the game. Microsoft adds
“Starting early next week, we will begin rolling out an update for Search in Windows 11 called Search Highlights that will highlight interesting moments from the world around you and your organization.”
Family is now present with parental control features.
It is possible to define filters vis-à-vis certain applications, games while ensuring Internet browsing suitable for children via Microsoft Edge. It is also possible to balance screen activities from Windows, Xbox and Android and have reports to better understand your family’s digital activity.
However, Microsoft specifies
“The Family app is an Inbox app of Windows 11 Home Edition. Its updates will be available through the Microsoft Store. For “Insider” users on Windows 11 Pro, go to Settings > Accounts > Family and download the Microsoft Family app from the Windows Store.
Windows 11 and Clipchamp
Clipchamp will address content creators. It’s a video editor designed to provide easy, fast and fun creation. All the basic tools are normally present such as a function of cropping, splitting or even transitions and animated text. The software is also armed with a real-time recording function of the office and the flow of a webcam.
Microsoft adds
“What really sets Clipchamp apart from other video editors is its timeline. Normally, this is an interface reserved for pros because it offers more control (and complication) than a classic editor. […] We kept all the best parts of Timeline Editing – the flexibility, the ability to tweak the details – and stripped out the rest. The result is a refreshingly simple video editing experience that anyone can enjoy.”
A library of over one million royalty-free videos, audio tracks and images is planned. An Azure-powered text-to-speech generator capable of creating voiceovers in more than 70 languages is also included. Finally Clipchamp is able to connect to OneDrive. It is therefore possible to import files and record videos.
The research
The third important new feature concerns the search function of Windows 11. From the beginning of next week, an update will be deployed to enrich the search page of Windows 11.
The objective is to offer current content deemed interesting. The window will allow you to discover trends online, in the world and in your organization (company or school). The search box in Start and Search will be updated with new content periodically. It advertises fun illustrations to learn more, get connected, and stay productive. Redmond adds
“These search highlights will showcase notable and interesting moments, such as holidays, birthdays, and other educational moments in time, both around the world and in your area. You’ll find rich, bold content that highlights what’s special today.”
The left side of the search home page displays an expanded list of recently launched apps, files, settings, and websites. Finally, if a connection with a professional or school account is present, this new feature will also offer files and contacts linked to his school or company.
To all this is added other new features such as an update to the interface of the Print Queue module.
The Quick Assist application now has a new icon (Fluent Design style) just like Windows Sandbox.
The Notification Center icon when the “Do not disturb” option is activated has been reworked. Windows Terminal is now called Terminal in Start. Finally “Shift + Right Click” in File Explorer and Desktop opens the “Show more options” context menu.
On the side of fixes we have six bug fixes for the taskbar, seven for the operating system in general, four for the taskbar in tablet mode and five for the file explorer. Finally Microsoft also corrects problems affecting research, inputs (mouse, keyboard, touch mode…), Parameters, windowing, narrator, task managers.
Windows 11 build 22572 is offered through the DEV channel. It is above all an OS for testing and not to accompany a main PC. We have several known and unresolved issues.
