Windows 11 introduces many interface changes. The contextual menus, for example, adopt a modern look and now offer the option “Show more options”.
It provides access to the classic entries but the approach is not the most relevant. Oddly enough, this choice d complicates certain actions such as file compression for example (WinRAR, Z-ZIP, etc.). In an office environment, the approach is not “productive”, quite the contrary. This probably explains Microsoft’s commitment to rectify the situation.
The latest Preview published on the DEV channel of the Windows Insider program proposes to launch “Show more options” with the shortcut Shift + Right click in File Explorer or the desktop. Clearly it is sufficient to simply press the Shift key before clicking with the right mouse button anywhere on the screen. The operation triggers the opening of the context menu directly with the classic entries.
Windows 11 and the taskbar
In parallel with this novelty, Microsoft is also attacking another important element of the interface, the taskbar. We find several improvements and some bug fixes. The giant explains
“We fixed an issue where the explorer.exe crashes when right-clicking the Start button or when using the WIN + X shortcut. A change is made to fix a memory leak in Shell Experience Host when repeatedly opening and closing Notification Center.”
We also have fixes for Notification Center and explorer.exe. For the latter it is a question of once once more correcting problems with crashes in different scenarios. One of them is regarding sharing a window in Microsoft Teams.
Finally, in a discreet way, a system of tabs appears in File Explorer. This new feature is not enabled by default. Everything suggests that this is a first version. Its development is therefore in progress and we have no information on its publication schedule.
