Windows 11 and 12, the future will pass the AI

The future of Windows will go through artificial intelligence. AI is already powering some of its features but these are only premises. These are Microsoft’s promises for the future.

Microsoft’s Panos Panay spoke at CES 2023 regarding integrating AI into the Windows experience. He explained that it is necessary to be prepared for important changes. Basically everything we do with this operating system will be reinvented as artificial intelligence takes over. Added to this is an ever-thinning border between the local and the connected. The cloud will continue to grow by being more and more present.

We don’t know if the giant is talking regarding the immediate future of Windows 11 through Windows 12 or a version that will be launched during the next decade.

Panos Panay a precise

AI will reinvent the way you do everything on Windows, literally. Like those big generative models, think language models, code generation models, image models; These models are so powerful, so charming, so useful. But they are also very computationally intensive, and we haven’t been able to do that before. We’ve never seen these intense workloads at this scale before, and they are here. It’s going to need an operating system that blurs the line between the cloud and the edge, and that’s what we’re doing right now.

Regarding Windows 12, rumors suggest a release in 2024 or 2025. Work on this operating system has already begun, but internally and discreetly. It would be a burning and confidential file.

We know, however, that Microsoft continues to work on Windows 11. In addition, Windows 10 is still relevant. Knowing that his retirement is scheduled for October 2025, this date seems more appropriate for a launch. Microsoft would continue in this way to ensure the maintenance of two OS.
