Windows 10 Users Facing Windows 11 Upgrade Prompts: What You Need to Know

A Reddit user shared his experience that his Windows 10 computer is receiving a full-screen prompt reminding Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11 within 18 months before the end of support. This prompt was originally intended to guide users to upgrade their systems before the end of Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025, but there are still a large number of computers on the market that have hardware that supports Windows 11.

Reddit user Woopinah9 received such a full-screen notification while at work, in which Microsoft thanked Windows 10 users and explained the end of support date. Unfortunately, this Reddit user’s computer cannot be upgraded to Windows 11 because the computer does not meet Microsoft’s hardware requirements for Windows 11. The notification reads: “Your computer cannot be upgraded to Windows 11, but it will continue to receive Windows 10 repair and security updates until the end of support on October 14, 2025.” This reminder means that it is time for users to change computers .

Upgrade tips also include links to end-of-support articles and Windows 11 promotional pages. This full-screen prompt only has “Learn More” and “Remind Me Later” buttons, suggesting that this type of prompt may appear more than once. Perhaps users may receive such a notification before Windows 10 support officially ends.

This full-screen prompt for Windows does not directly mention that consumers can safely use the operating system following October 14, 2025, if they are willing to pay. For business users, Extended Security Updates (ESU) for Windows 10 will cost $61 per device in the first year, rising to $122 in the second year and $244 in the third year. As for non-commercial users, Microsoft has not announced ESU pricing in detail.
