Windows 10 gets new ‘Windows Backup’ app

The Windows Backup app will be in Windows 10 as well. Previously, in May 2023, build 23466 of the beta version of Windows 11 made available on the Dev channel, Microsoft made available a new application created to back up settings, files, applications, among other things. Now, this past weekend, Windows 10 build 19045.3391 brought the new Windows Backup app.

To open the new Windows Backup app in Windows 11, just click on the start menu and look for it in the list. Its function is to back up folders, applications, credentials and settings using OneDrive. However, according to Taras Buria of the Taras Buria website, build 19045.3391 cannot be restored from a OneDrive backup during the onboarding experience. With this, it is believed that Microsoft has made the new app available for Windows 10 in order to facilitate the migration to Windows 11.

Released in the “release preview” channel of the Windows Insider program, Windows 10 build 19045.3391 implements other improvements in addition to those brought by the Windows Backup application. One is location enhancement to provide information regarding weather, news, traffic information and other data related to where the user is. Additionally, account-related notifications, daylight savings changes, and other fixes have been released.
