Windows 10, an installation bug “forces” the purchase of Microsoft 365!

Windows 10 users are falling victim to several full-screen notifications aimed at promoting Windows 11 and Microsoft 365. Unfortunately a critical bug affecting the Windows 10 22H2 setup process. It prevents the Microsoft 365 offer from being declined. The user is prompted to enter their credit card details.

Microsoft occasionally uses a “questionable” approach to try to convince Windows users to use new services and applications. This concerns, for example, OneDrive and Microsoft 365. According to Redmond, these are not “aggressive” operations but recommendations to make “Windows even better” by helping customers discover certain services.

As we mentioned in the introduction, “full screen” pop-ups in Windows 10 have been around for years. They appeared in 2018 in order to push the PC at the time to connect to a Microsoft account.

Unfortunately for the giant, a critical bug will not help things and the “positive” perception of this type of operation. A bug affects Windows 10 22H2. It is forcing the user to enter their credit card details. On Reddit a short 15-second video shows a full-screen notification during the “first boot experience” process.

It offers two options regarding Microsoft 365

  1. Try for free,
  2. No thanks.

Normally the option ” No thanks should skip the Microsoft 365 enrollment request in order to proceed to the next screen. This is unfortunately not the case.

Windows 10 – Microsoft 365 bug

A Microsoft source, who wished to remain anonymous, says this is a bug and not intentional behavior. Microsoft accidentally reversed the choices. Clearly the button ” No thanks » corresponding to the button « Try for free and vice versa. It is therefore possible to decline the offer by selecting “Try for free”. The other option is to disconnect from the internet while setting up Windows 10.

Microsoft has yet to officially acknowledge the issue, but a fix should be forthcoming. Windows 10 is supported until October 2025.
