Wind mast on Lehmberg collapsed: 150,000 euros in damage

The mast did not fall over on its own, as it looks like. The police reported on Thursday that investigations are underway into damage to property. For the time being, nothing was known about the background to the crime.

The unknown persons cut the tension cables of the 80 meter high measuring system in the municipality of Neumarkt am Wallersee. This caused the mast to fall over, the police described the events. The perpetrators then broke open a technology container and set fire to it. The fire was quickly extinguished by the fire department. The total damage is estimated at around 150,000 euros.

The wind measurements for the Lehmberg project by Salzburg AG and Wien Energie have been running since the end of 2023. Initial results made the project operators very optimistic. The preparation of the submission documents for the EIA is scheduled to begin this summer; the application itself could be submitted in 2025.
