Stefanos Tsitsipas on Saturday called Nick Kyrgios a “gross” with “a demonic side” in him following his 6-7 (2/7), 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (9/7) loss to Barcelona. Australian in the third round of Wimbledon following a heated match.
“He spends his time intimidating others, that’s what he does,” said the world No. 5 at a press conference.
“He martyrs his opponents. He was probably a bully himself at school. I don’t like bullies,” Tsitsipas added.
“He also has good sides. But… there is also a demonic side to him, which, when expressed, can really hurt and do a lot of harm to the people around him, ”said the Greek.
For his part Kyrgios (40th) explained that he understood Tsitsipas’ frustration following he had beaten him twice in recent weeks, recalling his defeat in mid-June in Halle once morest him. “Maybe he should figure out how to beat me once or twice first before taking care of anything else,” he quipped.
