Wimbledon: Elise Mertens and her partner Shuai Zhang qualify for the doubles final

Associated with the Chinese Shuai Zhang, Elise Mertens qualified for the doubles final of the British Open on the London grass at Wimbledon on Friday.

Elise Mertens, world number 1 in doubles, hopes to be able to retain her title won last year, but with Taiwanese Hsieh Su-wei. With Shuai Zhang, the Belgian number 1 beat in three sets 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 on Friday in the semi-finals the Americans Danielle Collins (WTA 328) and Desirae Krawczyk (WTA 13), who kept her title in mixed doubles on Thursday with the Briton Neal Skupsky.

Elise Mertens also has two more Grand Slam titles in doubles, with the US Open in 2019 and the Australian Open last year, with Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka. This year, Mertens had reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open and the round of 16 at Roland-Garros with the Russian Veronika Kudermetova.

Elise Mertens, 26, 31st in the world in singles, was eliminated in the round of 16 in women’s singles by Tunisian Ons Jabeur (WTA 2), who continued her journey to the final.
