Wilson launches the marketing of its airless basketball “Airless Gen1” at the price of 2,500 dollars

Announced a year ago, the airless basketball from the Wilson brand will soon be marketed. The prototype developed will therefore become reality for a handful of fortunate happy few.

Baptized the “Wilson Airless Gen1”, the ball will go on sale on February 16, 2024 in limited quantities at a price of $2,500. A balloon entirely designed in 3D printing.

This version, which will go on sale in a few days, has functionalities similar to those of the prototype unveiled a year ago with some developments to improve its performance and streamline the manufacturing process. An airless basketball that almost meets the standards of a regulation basketball (weight, size and bounce). For the moment this object still seems much more a product intended for innovation and basketball enthusiasts.

“We were overwhelmed by the excitement surrounding our Airless prototype and knew it was time to introduce this rare and one-of-a-kind innovation” explain Kevin Murphy, general manager of team sports at Wilsonin a press release. “Wilson has gone where no brand has gone before with this launch, further inspiring the next generation of sports innovation. »

A balloon that includes the same transparent mesh with eight panel-shaped “lobes”. In addition to the black color of the prototype, the Airless Gen1 will also be available in brown and natural white with a serial number.
