The Communications FC team beat CSD Cobán Imperial on the night of Wednesday, April 24, in the first leg of the quarterfinals of the 2024 Clausura Tournament.

It was a solitary goal scored by the Ecuadorian Juan Luis Anangonó in the 13th minute that decided history in favor of the white team, and although the series is still open, the victory helps Comunicaciones to gain confidence since it was coming off a streak of six games without being able to win in the tournament.

Until Wednesday’s victory against Cobán, the last victory recorded for Comunicaciones dated back to March 13 (0-1 over Coatepeque). Since then there were four defeats and two draws.

The bad streak forced the cream board to make decisions and finally Willy Coito took over as coach of the team at the same time that Iván Franco Sopegno took a position within the basic forces of the entity.

After the victory against Cobán on the field of the Cementos Progreso stadium, Willy Coito spoke to the media and expressed his conclusions from the match, at the same time he assured that “we have not achieved anything” in reference to the fact that the title has not yet been achieved.

“I think this part of the championship is complicated, always, but I think there were very positive things in the team, a very good first half with a lot of dynamics, with many options created and I think a second half that cost us a little to maintain the rhythm of the first half,” he said.

“I am happy with the team’s performance, we needed to be more accurate. We are going to go out and look for the game in Cobán, if we want to be champions we have to beat everyone,” he said.

On the return leg, the Uruguayan declared that his team is capable of winning at the José Ángel Rossi and that that is the objective. “We have also gone to Cobán to win and I think the team is fully capable of doing so. We respect the rival and we know that they are a rival with many virtues, but I think the team prevailed and that is what we are going to try to do in Coban.”

The second leg will be played on Saturday, April 27 at 12 noon.
