PSV has effortlessly come through the first four league matches before the international break. The Eindhoven team is comfortably in the lead and according to the Van de Kerkhof brothers, that will not change this season. “With this selection, PSV will become champions with two fingers in their nose”, says Willy with the approval of brother René. “I don’t often agree with him, but this time I do. PSV simply has to become champions, period!”
However, there are also some concerns about the defense, as the two club icons report in the Willy and René Podcast of Omroep Brabant. “There only need to be one or two injuries and then they already have big problems”, fears René. Just like Willy, René thinks that Armando Obispo will come close to a starting place when he is fit again.
But Willy wouldn’t be surprised if young Belgian Matteo Dams also continues to play a lot. “He did very well, especially purely defensively. He will be the revelation of the season!”
“Feyenoord coach won’t make it to Christmas.”
All in all, the brothers are very happy with the PSV selection, especially because almost everyone stayed on board. According to Willy and René, PSV was completely right to be tough on interested clubs. “Boscagli and Benitez wanted to leave, but they will get over that”, Willy expects. “They also know that by playing well, they can still make sure that they end up at a nice club next year.”
The brothers are not scared at all when they see the selections of Feyenoord and Ajax. Willy expects that Feyenoord in particular will have a difficult season. “I honestly think that Priske is not the ideal trainer for Feyenoord. I don’t think he will make it to Christmas.”
René is a little less pessimistic about the Dane. “Feyenoord can’t afford to fire him. It’s not easy to succeed Arne Slot either. I think Feyenoord has a pretty good team and will once again be PSV’s main competitor.”
“Yummy, bring it on!”
PSV and Feyenoord will also soon be able to start their new Champions League adventure. “We have great opponents,” Willy beams. “Juventus, PSG, Liverpool… Great! Let’s get started.”
In the podcast, the brothers talk extensively about PSV’s chances in the Champions League and also about the police’s pension actions that caused the top match Feyenoord-Ajax to be taken off the calendar.
