The Williams F1 team has announced that it will appoint Nyck de Vries for the first free run of the 2022 F1 Round 6 Spanish Grand Prix.
This year, F1 requires young drivers to be on board at least twice in free practice. The Williams F1 team has decided to appoint Mercedes F1 reserve driver and active Formula E champion Nyck de Vries for the first free run of the Spanish Grand Prix.
Nyck de Vries will drive the FW44 on behalf of Alex Albon and will help the team qualify and prepare for the Grand Prix following Albon returns to the FW44 for the second free run.
“First of all, I’m really grateful to Williams for giving me the opportunity to run in FP1,” said Nyck de Vries.
“Getting to know the team, driving the FW44, and being able to run the course on the F1 weekend is great for me. The test preparations have been going well so far and the team has incredibly supported me. I’m really looking forward to all my experiences in Spain right now! “
