Williams have decided to replace Logan Sargeant with their academy driver, Franco Colapinto, for the remainder of the 2024 Formula 1 season.
Sargeant has been under pressure this year, In July, Williams announced Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz would join them in 2025 to race alongside Alex Albon.
At the Dutch GP last weekend, the 23-year-old American crashed his car in the third free practice session. The damage from the crash was so severe that Sargeant was unable to take part in qualifying.
In an official statement, Williams said Sargeant would remain part of the Williams team.
Colapinto admitted that the opportunity to race with Williams was a dream come true.
The 21-year-old Formula 2 driver added: “This team has an incredible history and is on a mission to get back to the front. I can’t wait to be a part of it.”

Williams team principal James Vowles said the decision to replace Sargeant mid-season was not an easy one.
“We have just made a big upgrade to the car and need to maximise every opportunity to pick up points in the tight midfield battle,” said Vowles.
“This was not an easy decision for Logan, who has given everything to Williams. We thank him for all his hard work and positive attitude,” he continued.
Sargeant made his Formula 1 debut in 2023 and has scored just one point in 36 races, at the United States GP in October. (bbc/Z-1)
