William Byron will headline the front row of the Hendrick Motorsports team in Sunday’s NASCAR Cup race at Kansas Speedway. Daniel Suárez from the top 10.
Byronwho had touched the wall earlier in the day in practice, suffered no mishap in his #24 Chevrolet in qualifying.
Although he was in the top five for the final round to start, Byron’s average speed of 179.206 mph was enough to claim pole for Sunday’s race.
Byron outclassed his teammate at HMS Kyle Larson (179.170 mph), who was second fastest, while his Chevrolet teammate Ross Chastain he was third (179.134 mph).
The pole is the second of the 2023 season for Byron and the tenth of his career. His 10 pole positions have been on different circuits.
“Yeah, it’s awesome,” Byron said. “Our car was pretty good. I almost went over the fence in Turns 3 and 4, but the guys brought a great car.
“It took us a bit to get it. I hit the wall like a fool (in practice). So I got that mistake off my back and then had a solid practice.
“I like coming to Kansas. It’s a fun track. It’s going to be a real challenge tomorrow, racing once morest the fence. That’s going to be the dominant rut. Right now, we’re going to enjoy the pole.”
Martin Truex Jr. he finished fourth and Tyler Reddick rounded out the top five.
Rounding out the top-10 are Joey Logano, Ty Gibbs, Denny Hamlin, Daniel Suárez y Ryan Blaney.
