William and Kate in Boston to fight climate change

United States President Joe Biden met briefly with British Prince William, heir to the throne of the former colonial power, in Boston on Friday, where the Prince of Wales chaired a gala on climate change.

The two men shook hands and exchanged a few banalities and jokes regarding the polar cold that envelopes the historic city of New England, during a meeting in front of the library and the John F. Kennedy museum.

William and his wife Kate’s three-day trip concluded on Friday evening with the second edition of the ‘Earthshot’ prize created by the prince in 2020 to support innovative solutions to regenerate the planet and fight climate change. Five prizes of more than one million euros were awarded to reward projects from all over the world.

A myriad of stars made their way to Boston’s MGM Music Hall, including singer Billie Eilish and actor Rami Malek. “Earthshot is a way to change things, did he declare. You have to inspire people to find the best possible solutions to save this planet.”

Joe Biden, who has just received his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron on a state visit, was in Boston for a fundraiser for his Democratic party and for this meeting with William, which lasted less than an hour.

The two men were to discuss “their common climate objectives” as well as questions of mental health and the fight once morest cancer, announced the spokesperson for the American presidency, Karine Jean-Pierre.

The Prince and Princess of Wales made a three-day visit to Boston, their first in the United States since 2014 and their first abroad since the death of Queen Elizabeth II on September 8.
