Willi the farmer: A speech I would have liked to give…

Willi the farmer*

I will not be at the demonstration on Monday in Berlin, because my mother will be buried on Tuesday. This is why I am giving you here a speech that I would have liked to give.

My grade : Our political situation is different, but many elements of this fictional speech are also relevant in our context.

Hello everyone,

If you think I’m going to talk today regarding increasing agricultural diesel taxes or vehicle taxes, you’re wrong. I would like to say something regarding the future of agriculture in Germany, because our son will take over the farm next year.

Is this good ? For the moment, I don’t really know if I should advise him once morest it, but he really wants it. He is intelligent, he is hardworking and he has ideas. He must get these qualities from his mother and with such qualities one can run a business. If the framework conditions are good. And this is precisely what is currently lacking. Therefore, I am now turning to those who can create these framework conditions for the future of our corporate successor.

Dear Mr. Özdemir, I don’t know what to think of you. If you really weren’t aware of the plans to impose charges on farmers, you should give up your apron. What we need are personalities who are passionate regarding our cause, and that’s not your case. Soon following your appointment as minister, you declared that you were the advocate of all farmers. I insist: of all farmers, not just organic farmers. You said that there were two bibles on your desk: the coalition contract and the report of the Commission for the Future of Agriculture. In the meantime, more than two years have passed. This represents more than 730 days, or more than 17,520 hours.

What has come out of it so far? Livestock labeling which now includes 5 criteria instead of 4, as with QS [Qualität und Sicherheit GmbH, une entreprise de certification privée portée par des associations de l’agroalimentaire]. That’s all. We, the farmers, find this a poor performance that barely deserves the rating ” insuffisant”. For the rest, you give an almost pathetic image. A video regarding safety vests for chickens is simply embarrassing and when your press service writes on honey bee day that it pollinates wheat and corn, this only shows which laymen have the word in your ministry. I might continue the list.

Dear Mr Lindner, you are the biggest disappointment for us farmers. Many of us voted for your party [le FDP]. You are responsible for finances and you have accepted that 250,000 farmers, out of a population of 84 million, bear the burden of one billion euros. You justify this with “ harmful subsidies “. Now that the protests are starting to be heard, you back off and can consider correcting the plans. Mr. Lindner, you have the spine of a garden hose. You and your party are now definitely – and not just for farmers – ineligible. Please take your own words: “ Better not to govern than to govern badly “. End this unspeakable coalition.

Dear Monsieur Scholz, I would like to copy your behavior. I do not want to say anything. Except that you have never disappointed me. You simply can’t do it, and when faced with incompetent people, I have only one thing to say: pity. Do yourself and all of us a favor: put an end to this shameful game that continues to tarnish the reputation of the once prosperous Federal Republic of Germany. Germany deserves better than this government.

Where is our federal president ? I can’t remember his name. In such a government crisis, a few neutral words from him wouldn’t be too much, right?

But now let’s talk regarding the future and the prospects for our young people: don’t let this get you down, it can’t be worse than now. When you tighten a screw, following having tightened it very hard, it loosens or comes off. And here we are. In the weeks and months to come, we must not relent in our efforts to improve things. In the meantime, large sections of the population want new elections, because here too the lack of prospects is becoming increasingly felt. We will unite with the middle class. The carriers have also had enough and are in the starting blocks. The horror of the traffic light coalition will soon end.

A few more words to CDU : you too disappoint me a lot. It is clear that it is the role of the opposition to criticize the government. But what I’m waiting for are concepts on how you want to make things better. I do not see them. What I don’t see either is a personality who is recognized by a large part of the population. I will give you an example: a Pistorius from the CDU who is upright in his boots, who fights for his cause and who also tells uncomfortable truths. Yes, the population can handle the truth! He was lied to for too long. And so you know right away: I have the right to vote freely and that’s what I’m going to do soon. Vote freely, and it will no longer be the CDU where the FDP, to whom I gave my voice for 50 years. But don’t worry, it won’t be theAfD. I am conservative, liberal and Christian, and the profile ofAfD really doesn’t fit it.

Did I forget anyone else? Where he’Farmers Union. Mr Rukwied [président du Deutscher Bauernverband]Mr Krüsken [secrétaire général du Deutscher Bauernverband], it really was time for you to come out of the woods. For the days and weeks to come, take an example from Mr. Weselsky [syndicaliste]. Yes, this man is annoying. But he is successful. He is unsuitable and doesn’t cuddle with anyone. This is what farmers now expect from you. You are both great physically, show greatness in other areas too. And perseverance.
