PhD candidate Willem II was able to bravely resist against high-flyers Feyenoord and FC Utrecht in away matches. This afternoon the Tricolores will fight an opponent from the outside category on their own field: the undefeated PSV. The champion and leader does not want to suffer the first loss of points of the season in Tilburg.
PSV has a 100% score and will undoubtedly want to try to surpass last season’s unbeaten run (won 17 games in a row). Willem II naturally wants to perform stunts against the East Brabant neighbors. Based on the statistics, it cannot be ruled out that the Tilburg team will deprive the Eindhoven team of points, because a win in Tilburg has not been easy for PSV in the last ten years. Both teams won three times and twice it ended in a draw. The famous 5-0 was of course one of them.
Another statistic is that Peter Bosz’s team kept their own goal clean in only two of the six Eredivisie matches. Fortuna Sittard, RKC Waalwijk, Heracles Almelo and Almere City managed to score a goal against PSV. Willem II scored at least one goal in all matches this season.
Accurate Tillman
PSV has several players to keep an eye on, including midfielder Malik Tillman. The American attacking midfielder has already scored four times, bringing him almost half of his 2023-2024 season total. Hirving Lozano also has four goals, but Bosz must miss the Mexican and Sergiño Dest for the time being.
Aelbrecht at the helm
Kristof Aelbrecht takes over the duties of the suspended Peter Maes. The assistant coach was a youth coach at the PSV youth from 2009 to 2018. During that period he had Niels van Berkel and Dani Mathieu under his wing, among others. The pair are watching from the stands today due to injuries.
Willem II – PSV is completely sold out. Those at home can follow the match via ESPN 2, Willem II Radio and the Matchcenter on this website. Referee Serdar Gözübüyük blows the whistle for kick-off at 4:30 PM, Pol van Boekel is the VAR.
