Elon Musk says he would reverse Donald Trump’s Twitter ban.
Elon Musk said on Tuesday that he would reverse Twitter’s ban on former US President Donald Trump.
Speaking virtually at a summit on the future of the automobile hosted by the Financial Times, Musk said Twitter’s decision to censor Trump was a “morally bad decision” and “dumb in the extreme.”
He added that permanent account bans on Twitter should be rare, and reserved for accounts that are scams or automated bots.

Twitter suspended Trump’s account in January 2021 for “inciting violence” following the storming of the US Capitol on January 6.
“I think it was a mistake because it alienated a large portion of the country and ultimately resulted in Donald Trump not having a voice,” Musk said.
“So I think this might end up being downright worse than having a single forum where everyone can debate. I guess the answer is that I would reverse the permanent ban.”
Musk added that his displeasure at the permanent bans is shared by Twitter co-founder and former CEO Jack Dorsey.
Trump: “I’m staying with Truth”
Trump had previously said he had no intention of returning to Twitter even if his account was reinstated, telling Fox News last month that he would instead focus on his own platform, Truth Social, which has been mired in trouble since its launch earlier this year.
“I’m not going to go to Twitter. I’m going to stay at Truth,” Trump told the network. “I hope Elon buys Twitter because he will make improvements to it and he’s a good man, but I’m going to stay at Truth.”
Trump’s representatives have not commented on Musk’s remarks.
