Following the withdrawal of title partner P2i, the Open Angers Arena Loire must do without. If the organizers have found partners, they still have to wait for help from communities.
The future of the Open Angers Arena Loire still remains uncertain. After three successful editions, the Angevin tournament is one of the most remarkable in its category (WTA 125). Recently, it has just been honored with two new prestigious distinctions: voted the third most beautiful women’s tournament in the world WTA 125 and the first women’s tournament in the world in terms of attendance, with 18,000 spectators, in this same category. “This sporting success and this popular success are the result of hard work by the organizing team and the investment of our private partners, as well as a strong commitment on the part of local authorities”, rejoices Nicolas Mahut, the director of the competition. However, it is not certain that there will be a fourth edition next year…
A long-awaited commitment
Indeed, the title partner of the Open, P2i, announced its withdrawal at the end of last year. Since then, the organizing team has worked to find new partners to fill this considerable gap. Thanks to this research, which proved to be a success, the imbalance was transformed into balance. “We have found great companies who are joining the adventure as major partners, and have actually financially compensated for the withdrawal of P2i”confirms the director.
But concern persists regarding the aid provided by communities, representing 30% of the budget. “All that remains is for us to confirm the support from the communities, from whom we expect a strong commitment identical to previous editions, in particular by virtue of their declared support for women’s sport”, he indicates. If the organizers wait, the international tennis federation is getting impatient. To complete the season schedule, a response from the Open must be provided before mid-February. The clock is turning…
