Because owner Jim Ratcliffe wants to see his team win the Tour de France once more. After Evenepoel and Pogacar, a new target is therefore being attempted.
How far gone are the days when the Sky team then Ineos Grenadiers reigned over the Tour de France (last victory in 2019 with Egan Bernal). An era that its owner would like to see once more Jim Ratcliffe. The Englishman is doing everything to ensure that his team finds a leader capable of winning on the Grande Boucle and to compete with the hegemony of Jumbo-Visma on the Grand Tours.
First there was the rumor Remco Evenepoel and the takeover of Soudal-Quick Step. But since then, it has been at a standstill. There was also confirmation that Ineos Grenadiers inquired regarding a possible arrival of Tadej Pogacar in his team. But once more, the answer was negative.
The British team therefore activates a third track. And not the least. Because if the rumor of the union between Soudal-Quick Step and Jumbo Visma is made, it will be necessary to downsize. The two cores put together is too many runners. But also too many leaders.
