“Local merchants ask us to hold the festival every month. Prices are rising and consumption is stagnant, making it difficult for them to continue, but local festivals serve as a relief.”

Local festivals that had been on hiatus due to the heat and summer vacation are starting up again this weekend. Most autonomous districts in Seoul have large-scale representative festivals, but recently, they have become so commonplace that they are held every month.

The biggest reason is the revitalization of the local economy. Eunpyeong-gu said that after holding a festival last year, “sales at surrounding stores increased by more than 30%.” In addition, regional promotion, community strengthening, attracting tourists, and strengthening the local brand are other reasons that cannot be left out.

Eunpyeong-gu will hold the ‘5th Summer Street Party’ event at Yeonsinnae Shopping District on the 24th and 25th. The event will be held at Yeonsinnae Rodeo Street, the most developed commercial district in the area. It is characterized by providing things to see and enjoy with a cosplay concept such as comics, games, and characters. A cosplay competition will be held on the first day of the party, and the district mayor will personally run Eunpyeong Tavern.

‘Hot Summer! Street Performance’ will also feature performances by singer Lee Seung-yeon from Miss Trot, magician Ariel, and choreographer Aiki. This event is hosted and organized by the Yeonsinnae Shopping Mall Merchants Association and sponsored by Eunpyeong-gu. Mayor Kim Mi-kyung said, “I hope that many people will visit Yeonsinnae Shopping Mall and that it will be an opportunity for the merchants in the shopping mall to put smiles back on their faces.”

Eunpyeong-gu will hold the finals of the ‘Youth e-Sports Competition’ at Lotte Mall Eunpyeong on the 24th, and will attract visitors by hosting the ‘2nd Seoul Eunpyeong Youth Film Festival (SESFF)’ at Lotte Cinema Eunpyeong from the 31st of this month to the 2nd of next month.

The ‘Cheongnyangni Market Moonlight Outing’ festival will also be held in Dongdaemun-gu from noon to 10 p.m. on the 24th. This festival is also led by the Cheongnyangni Market Merchants Association and focuses on attracting the younger generation.

Dongdaemun-gu will hold the ‘2024 Dongdaemun-gu Beer Festival, Brew Brew Beer Factory’ at Jungnangcheon 1st Sports Park on the last weekend of August, the 30th and 31st. Twelve famous domestic craft beer breweries, including Hwasoo Brewery and Weizenhaus, will participate in the festival. Jazz performances, DJ performances, and a musical concert by The March Company, which consists of current musical actors from Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, will also be held.
