HERMOSILLO, SONORA.- Maryela Celaya Rosasgraduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Sonora, was scholarship from the Esposos Rodríguez Foundation to pursue a Master of Science degree in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Arizona.
Winner of the 2024 Excellence Scholarship, will study for two years in Tucson, Arizonawith their project “How will plants respond to new climate change scenarios and what mechanisms are related to the process?”
With this research, he specified that he will specialize in the study of functional traits of plants; With this, it will be possible to diagnose, discover and corroborate the behavior of the vegetation, which is essential to propose measures for prevention and attention to the global climate emergency.
My contribution is directly aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda, in particular: Life on Earth (SDG 15), Climate Action (SDG 13) and Partnerships to achieve the goals (SDG 17).”
“With the reinforcement of my training in science and technologyI will have greater qualifications for propose actions, solutions and disseminate knowledge for the benefit of the fight against climate change with direct application in the State of Sonora and in Mexico,” he pointed out.
The graduate has been in Tucson, Arizona, since last August 11 and hopes that when she finishes her preparation, her contribution will be significant.
“The results of this research will provide information for understanding changes in distribution, community composition and crop productivity globally.”

Celaya Rosas considered that the University of Sonora prompted her to pursue this dream thanks to close relationship with universities in the United Statessince from the first semesters of the degree, teamwork, international cooperation and the dissemination of knowledge were instilled in him.
My undergraduate studies gave me the necessary tools to excel academically. The professors at the Department of Scientific and Technological Research encouraged my interest in research and helped me have an international vision. This preparation was key to being able to successfully integrate into a foreign institution and stand out in a global academic context,” he shared.
He added that this university is an internationally competent institution in various areas, and also has international agreements and alliances for the benefit of students.
