Canadian quarterback Nathan Rourke won’t steal the starting job from Trevor Lawrence at the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he might very well be his replacement in 2023.

The 25-year-old athlete initialed a contract with the NFL club last January, thus choosing to make the jump to our southern neighbors following two seasons with the BC Lions.
Last week, Jaguars offensive coordinator Press Taylor said he was impressed with the work the Victoria native had done.
“He’s done a great job in terms of his evolution from spring camp, through the summer and up to now in training camp. Him and [l’entraîneur des quarts-arrière] Mike McCoy have spent a tremendous amount of time together. He’s someone who’s going to have a lot of chances to show up in the preseason games and we have high expectations for him,” said Taylor, whose remarks were reported by 3DownNation.
Rourke is competing for second in Lawrence with quarterback CJ Beathard, a five-year veteran who has spent the past two years with the Jags. It might also very well be that the 29-year-old center and Rourke start the year with the first team of the Jaguars, they who outfitted three quarterbacks for the majority of their games in 2023.
“The most important thing is to understand what we are trying to do on each of our games, where the ball needs to go and to make the right decisions. The consistency is impressive from all of our guys so far,” Taylor said when asked regarding his quarterbacks’ performances.
In 2022, in the Canadian Football League, Rourke was dominant. Deprived of several games due to a foot injury, he still amassed 3,349 yards and 25 touchdowns in 10 games. He was also the victim of 10 thefts. The player who was playing his first season as a starter in the Ambrosie circuit also made 78.7% of his pass attempts, which is a league record.
