Ever since Bill Goldberg’s WWE contract ended, there have been reports that Goldberg has been working to get a match or one last tour to hang up his boots. There were also reports that Tony Khan was possibly interested in signing the WWE Hall of Famer to AEW.
Suite à AEW Double or Nothing 2023, l’AEW a organized a press conference in front of the media to answer various questions. The subject of Bill Goldberg was brought up and Tony Khan confirmed having had discussions with him:
”Yes, I spoke to Bill. It was not unusual. I spoke to Bill when he was out of contract, and I have a good relationship with Bill. I had a good conversation with him, but I had a lot of great conversations with Bill. His family has done a lot of great things in Jacksonville, he is connected with the Wolfson family, who built the Wolfson Children’s Hospital in Jacksonville. Bill is a former American football star, I worked in football and it’s a big part of my life. We have a lot in common, and we have a lot of mutual friends and I have a really good relationship with Bill. I love her so much. What I talked to him about, I would say it stays between the two of us. It was a nice exchange. I really like Bill, he’s a good guy.
A statement that confirms that Tony Khan discussed at the business level with Bill Goldberg, but also on a personal level and the city of Jacksonville since they had different discussions. It remains to be seen if the legend will one day land on AEW screens for one or more matches.
