Mumbai: Malayalam player Sanju Samson will be the vice-captain in the Indian team for the ODI series once morest South Africa. The squad for the one-day matches to be held following the India-South Africa Twenty20 series is yet to be announced. As the Twenty20 World Cup will be held next month, the Indian team will announce that all the key players will be given rest. It is reported that Sanju will play as the vice-captain in the Shikhar Dhawan-led team.
The 27-year-old Sanju performed well during India’s tour of Zimbabwe. Sanju led the India A team in the ODI series once morest the New Zealand A team and won the series 3-0. Sanju scored 29, 37 and 54 once morest the New Zealand A team.
National media also reported that young batsman Rajat Patidar might make his debut once morest South Africa. The first ODI will be played in Ranchi on October 6. The second match will be played in Ranchi on October 9 and the third match will be played in Delhi on October 11. The South African team for the ODI series has been announced earlier. All South Africa’s leading players are playing in the team led by Temba Bawuma.
