AvtoVAZ today has great opportunities to dramatically increase its share in the Russian market. This happened due to the departure from our country of many companies producing cheap cars. However, Chinese manufacturers are gradually filling empty niches. And they do it with the direct participation of Russian companies. Thus, the Avtotor automobile plant has recently set up the assembly of the Kaiyi E5 sedan, which, according to an official statement, will be offered for 1 million rubles. This amount includes a variety of discounts that customers can take advantage of.
But even under such conditions, Kaiyi E5 is already threatening AvtoVAZ. Given that this and other Chinese companies have cheap cars, the Togliatti Automobile Plant needs to urgently work on updating the lineup. In addition, it should be noted that dealers have recently begun to import inexpensive cars into our country as part of parallel imports. That is, AvtoVAZ, having great opportunities to increase its share in the domestic market, may soon lose them. Expansion of the model range due to really inexpensive cars will help to avoid this. The solution to this problem may be the revival of the VAZ-2107 2023-2024, the first renders of which were created by a domestic designer.
The high probability of this model returning is due to several reasons. Firstly, the VAZ-2107, despite the fact that it left the market a long time ago, is still known to a wide audience of Russian motorists. Therefore, his return will attract a lot of attention. Secondly, the car itself will turn out to be a very cheap product of AvtoVAZ. The gap between Granta and Vesta is very narrow in order to fill it with an additional model. And Lada cars, which will cost more than Vesta, are unlikely to become popular.
Thirdly, the development of the new VAZ-2107 will not require much time and money. This circumstance plays an important role for AvtoVAZ. By returning the VAZ-2107 2023-2024 to the market, the company will be able to offer a really attractive car with a low cost. Given the above circumstances (an increase in the number of inexpensive Chinese models and an increase in the number of imported cars), the speed of development of new items can also play a decisive role in the success of Lada sales.
The basis for the future VAZ-2107 will be the current version of Grants. This approach to car development, when several models are created on the same basis, is, firstly, used all over the world and, secondly, allows creating a new product with minimal time and money. At the same time, the new VAZ-2107 will be placed in the Lada lineup below Grants. The presented model, according to preliminary information, will be the most simplified car.
This will be done just to reduce the final price of the sedan. Also, using this option when developing a new model, AvtoVAZ will immediately be able to create an import-independent car. That is, unlike Vesta and other products of the company, the production of the VAZ-2107 2023-2024 will not stop due to a sudden suspension of the supply of individual components or a sharp increase in prices for components. In addition, the cost of an import-independent car will not be determined by fluctuations in the ruble exchange rate.
The new VAZ-2107 will technically be a complete copy of Grants. This model will be equipped by default with an 86- or 90-horsepower “aspirated” 1.6-liter and a 5-speed manual transmission. Other options for engines and gearboxes with the VAZ-2107 will not be offered, as this will lead to an increase in the cost of the sedan. The list of available equipment for the presented model will be minimal. Most likely, everything that will be offered with the VAZ-2107 is equipment that must be installed in accordance with current legislation: ABS, ERA-GLONASS and an airbag. The novelty will not even receive an audio system, not to mention air conditioning and other modern devices.
With this combination of characteristics and features, AvtoVAZ will be able to set prices for the VAZ-2107 2023-2024 lower than the Granta. Now the cheapest version of this model costs 678,300 rubles. Therefore, the new VAZ-2107 will be estimated at regarding 550-650 thousand rubles. But another possibility is not ruled out. After the release of the new sedan, AvtoVAZ may remove the basic versions from the list of configurations, thus increasing the prices for the entry-level Grant. In this case, the VAZ-2107 will cost regarding 700-800 thousand rubles.
The release date for the presented model is still unknown. Considering the fact that it will be simplified as much as possible and built on the basis of Grants, most likely the VAZ-2107 will debut during 2023. Increasing competition in the segment of cheap cars also speaks in favor of the fact that AvtoVAZ will complete the development of a new car so quickly.
