The advancement of technological innovations, especially those related to Artificial Intelligence, should transform the job market in the coming years. According to world economic forum report23% of current jobs will be changed by 2027.
And among the professions most affected by these changes are those related to accounting, according to another studyconducted by OpenAI and the University of Pennsylvania.
“Whenever there is a search on the topic, what we see is the counter at the top of the list of functions that will be extinct. And, in fact, technology can be a relevant threat for accountants if the focus is on the traditional model of performance of these professionals”, says Sandro Parreira, managing partner of Grupo IRKO, ahead of IRKO Campinas.
The new platforms have already begun to replace the repetitive work done by accountants, such as accounting entries. “In five years, many of the activities that demand a lot of execution time will disappear. This creates a great opportunity for accountants, who will no longer just receive and process data and will become someone who transforms them into relevant information for companies.”
This transformation is already happening, led by companies that offer BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) services, that is, the outsourcing of companies’ accounting, fiscal, tax and financial activities.
“Technology threatens repetitive tasks that do not add value to the customer. In the case of BPO professionals, however, what it does is guarantee a more agile and excellent service, giving space for the accountant to assume an advisory role and offer a strategic vision of the business to its clients”, says Parreira.
At a time of economic challenges, such as the current one, back office outsourcing gains even more strength, according to him. This is because it helps managers to focus on their core business, helping to reduce the entrepreneur’s costs – in addition to allowing him to count on an experienced team working in favor of his business.
“We help our clients to understand which are the most and least profitable areas of their operations, so that they can focus their efforts on what has worked and see the challenges to be overcome. With this change of mind setIRKO Campinas, for example, has tripled in size in the last three years, and we continue to grow at an accelerated pace”, says the partner of IRKO Campinas.
The boost in BPO activities is reflected in a positive moment for the generation of jobs in accounting in the country, contrary to forecasts. Data released by abrapsa (Brazilian Association of Administrative Support Service Providers) show that, from 2010 to 2021, the employment rate in BPO grew 149%, 11 times more than the national average (13%). In the same period, the number of companies in the sector grew by 55%.
“The demand for our services continues to increase, with constant regulatory changes in Brazil and the need for managers to see their balance sheets in detail in order to better manage their resources”, says Parreira. “For this reason, not only do we not believe in the end of the accounting profession, but we also believe in its advancement. Only those who stand still in time will become extinct.”
