“THE closing date is July 26th, that’s where we live. The course of implementation of the submission of tax returns is progressing smoothly and if they continue at the same rate, then we will certainly achieve the goal of having all of them submitted by July 26. At this time there is no reason to grant any extensionhe said the press representative of the Ministry of Finance Homeros Tsapalosinterviewed by Vassilis Adamopoulos, at First Program 91.6 and 105.8 and on the show “Morning Routes in the First”, if there is a case to extend the deadline for submitting tax returns.
Invited to comment the front page of the Journal of Editors that directly blames the leadership of the Ministry of Finance for a big fiasco in the matter of tax declarationspointing out that the pre-completed declarations instead of one and a half million, as the ministry had initially committed, were only 423 thousand and most of them with errors, Mr. Tsapalos pointed out the following.
“What we have said from the very beginning is that this year over 1.3 million employed pensioners with this unique source of income will be able to see their pre-filled declaration and submit it automatically, that is, without intervention a tax accountant or even the taxpayer himself. That is, this statement might automatically be submitted on the 2nd of the month. Out of this 1.3 million of our fellow citizens, the approximately 900,000 wanted to do this process themselves, not to wait for July 2, in order for their tax return to be automatically submitted, and to do it in the way that they did all these years. That’s why it turned out that in the end 431 thousand, if I’m not mistaken, our fellow citizens, ended up having their tax return submitted automatically. So it’s not a fiasco, it is regarding a very important digital reform, implemented for the first time in our country since this year, which enables such a large number of our fellow citizens to submit their declaration automatically. Obviously, it’s not that there was a failure in the system or that following all we had said something else at the beginning and in the end the crowd that was entitled to it or anyway might do automatic submission was different. It is because the citizens wanted to do the process the way they have done it all these years. I think that if we didn’t have this catastrophism tooif you allow me the word, some, not all of the tax world and the bodies that represent them, only some, of effectively nullifying the specific process and the great reform we are going to do, the number of those who would ultimately choose automatic submission would be much larger. Nevertheless, the tax returns, the number of them show that until July 26 the process will run smoothly, since close to 4.5 million tax returns have already been submitted and if we continue with this number of 100,000-110,000 per day, then surely by July 26th we will have reached the goal. (…) No one disputes that there were mistakes, as there are always mistakes in such a very large process involving so many millions of citizens. This year, however, the mistakes compared to previous years were fewer. The digital process was much more enhanced and I think we all have to agree that we should finally move to a process where tax declarations should be done as automatically as possible. With the assistance of tax experts and accountants, where their role is integral and necessary in this part of the tax mechanism but to let’s not nullify such an important reform that, following all, it concerns the citizen’s pocket, not to give 20s, 50s and 50s, while he might avoid these every year”.
About the popular application among citizens MyCoast, where one can report violations in the use of the beaches, according to what Mr. Tsapalos mentioned, regarding 9000 complaints have been made, checks have been made and especially in the last five days a thousand such cases have been examined, focusing on the 14 most “offending” beaches.
“We went to Halkidiki, Rhodes, Aegina, Kalymnos, the mainland. We found violations, however, overall the picture is much better than in the past. However, there were also cases where businesses were sealed off, removed umbrella seatsfines of over 350,000 euros were imposedoh and we will continue with this tactic. We will also raise drones in the next period in the Dodecanese, Cyclades and remote beaches to convey the message that this year legality will be applied everywhere on the beaches and all that we knew as given in the past no longer applies. We want free beaches and every businessman to take responsibility” said Mr. Tsapalos.
Asked if there are cases where a recurrence of violations is found, even though fines and other sanctions are imposed, the press representative of the Ministry of Finance noted that this happened in Rhodes, indeed within 24 hours and the business was finally sealed.
“It also happened in the area in Thymari, in Palaia Fokaia the other day, where they went to reopen the business, but there the specific operation was prevented with the intervention of both the Municipality and the Greek Police and we will do it everywhere. We must make this clear to everyone that we want healthy entrepreneurship on the beaches and everywhere. We want the honest businessmen who are the majority. We want the free right of the citizen to go with his umbrella to bathe with his family. We don’t want, if you allow me to express it, the businessmen-lamoyas, who all these years had found a way to get rich at the expense of everyone else,” concluded Mr. Tsapalos.
