It all worked out for Venezuelan Wilkelman Gonzalez in Class-A Salem’s 9-4 victory over Fayetteville on Thursday.
The Red Sox’ No. 10 prospect struck out nine batters — matching his career high — in five shutout innings, allowing one hit and three walks. After giving up a single to start the game, González shut out Woodpeckers batters for the rest of the game, retiring nine straight batters between the second and fourth innings.
Gonzalez, 20, hasn’t allowed a run in seven innings of work this season, while striking out 12 batters and walking four in two starts.
