Sydney: A court has rejected a complaint filed by his wife once morest former Australia cricketer Michael Slater over domestic violence. The Australian media reported that the case was dismissed on the grounds that Slater was mentally ill.

Fifty-two-year-old Slater was arrested by police last October on a complaint of domestic violence by his wife. Slater has been active in commentary since retiring from cricket.

ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) reported that the magistrate denied Slater life imprisonment in the case and ordered him to be sent to a mental health center for three months.

Slater did not appear in court because police ambulance services were not available, and he was transferred to a psychiatric unit in a Sydney hospital on Tuesday. He has reportedly spent more than 100 days in various mental health centers.

Slater played 74 Tests and 42 ODIs for Australia between 1993–2001. He later became a cricket commentator. But he was fired by Seven Network last year following an altercation with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison.
