Widzew Łódź 1:1. A fair draw after a difficult match

It could have gone either way

It was a fairly fair distribution of points. However, football likes to be unfair, things could have turned out differently. It’s not just about the one-on-one situation for Widzew just before the final whistle.

Lechia scored a goal from a penalty spot – just before the break, so “to the locker room”. This always gives you an advantage. By the way, this goal almost didn’t happen. Kapić shot into the lower right corner, but Widzew’s goalkeeper rushed where he needed to – it looked like he saved it. Meanwhile… the ball hit his hand, jumped, bounced off his back and crossed the goal line. Phew! A very happy situation, especially since the Łódź team’s goals are defended by the renowned Rafał Gikiewicz, who has had excellent seasons in the German Bundesliga on his CV.

If Lechia had beaten Widzew after the break, there were dynamic actions and situations, but no effectiveness.

Finally, Widzew scored a penalty quite accidentally in the 74th minute and equalized the score. Then the Łódź team started to dominate, which is reflected in the match statistics.

Statistics are better for Widzew

Lechia’s goalkeepers were Szymon Weirauch, Conrado, Sezonienko and Kapić. However, Widzew had more football quality on the pitch – so this point must be respected. All the more so because, as usual, after the 70th minute, Lechia began to lose strength.

The final statistics are not rosy for the inhabitants of Gdańsk:

  • shots: Lechia 10 – Widzew 18
  • shots on target: Lechia 2 – Widzew 8
  • ball possession: Lechia 45 percent – Widzew 55 percent
  • passes: Lechia 391 – Widzew 548
  • passing accuracy: Lechia 73 percent – Widzew 82 percent
  • distance covered: Lechia 114.37 km – Widzew – 117.4

Trip to Mielec in a week

After 10 league rounds, Lechia has 9 points and a poor goal balance (-7). The weekend matches of other teams are still ahead of us, but it is already known that a draw with Widzew puts the Gdańsk team just above the relegation zone or in the zone.

Next week, Lechia will play in Mielec against the local team Stal. A very important match for teams that are at the bottom of the table and desperately need every point to save themselves from relegation to a lower league.
